These small wearable sculptures are a response to my continuing exploration of the human/nature interface using reused or up-cycled man made materials along side natural materials. Evoking ideas of mans analysis of nature strands of Saffron are set between the glass of a c1940's slide mount. This ancient herb is, per gram, more valuable than gold. Over the ages it has been valued amongst other things for it's healing and aphrodisiac powers.
The pendant measures 50mm x 50mm x 2mm. The case is an original antique slide mount, and while care is taken to ensure that the piece is pristine, some small defects may be present as with any product of this age. The pendant comes on a 45cm neoprene cord, the fixing is an elegantly simple stainless steel clasp.
The work comes beautifully packaged in a Japanese Pauwlonia wood box, these artisan made boxes have been used for centuries in Japan for storing valuable artifacts.
A percentage of every sale of these art works will be donated to the Wilderness Society, an Australian based not for profit organisation dedicated to the protection of some of our most fragile and beautiful natural environments.
