Flower of Life study, variation VI

2010

These works are an exploration of the geometric construction of the hexagon, sometimes known as the Flower of Life.  The works use various hand made papers made transparent with bees wax, gold leaf, pins and beads.  All marks and cut outs are made using a poker work tool.  Poker work is a craft tecnique that is used as a decorative tool across many cultures, including the Indigenous people of Australia. I was introduced to the process whilst working with the Muru Mittigar Aboriginal Cultural Centre in Western Sydney.
